What can one say about San Francisco? The City by the Bay is absolutely beautiful – the weather is spectacular (when it isn’t foggy of course), the architecture interesting, the neighborhoods eclectic. We have giant redwoods, sand and surf, world-renowned wines, unmatched cuisine, cable cars, Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge. We hope you come for our wedding and stay a bit to enjoy all that this city and its environs have to offer. Here are some ideas where to get more info on our City.

Weather – Mark Twain once said the coldest winter he ever spent was a summer in San Francisco. That’s not quite true, but what is true is that the weather is unpredictable here. While it generally does not rain in the summer, we can get fog which means that it can be cool in the morning until the fog burns off, and it gets cool in the evenings as well. The rule of thumb is to wear layers and always bring a light jacket. For weather updates, you can go to the San Francisco Chronicle (see below) or www.weather.com.

San Francisco Chronicle – This is our local paper and a great resource for what is going on around town (www.sfgate.com)

Citysearch – This is an online magazine / Yellow Pages that tells everything that’s going on San Francisco, from movies to shows, restaurants to hotels. A great resource to help plan your trip. (sanfrancisco.citysearch.com )

Alcatraz – Why would anyone want to tour a defunct prison? Because it’s historic, fascinating and has a great view of the city from the middle of San Francisco Bay. The taped tour is terrific. If you are interested in this, you must make reservations far in advance.(www.nps.gov/alcatraz)

Public Transportation – The public transportation system in San Francisco is called MUNI (Municipal Transit System). It has an extensive network of busses, streetcars and subways, and it can take you wherever you want to go, but not necessarily when you want to get there. If you have a specific time when you have to be somewhere or are running late, it’s best to catch a cab. MUNI is $1.25 (as of 3/05) – make sure you ask for a transfer because you can ride the MUNI for an hour and half with a transfer. For maps and directions, go to www.sfmuni.com.
